The Lost Platoon (1991)
The Lost Platoon is directed by David A. Prior and it was release in 1991. Most of David’s movies are filmed in Mobile, Alabama so is this one. This is a low budget war/action movie with a poorly put together cast and a really bad plot. The stars in the movie are David Parry as Jonathan Hancock and Stephen Quadros as Walker. The rest of the staff is totally unfamiliar and after you seen the movie it is easy to know why.

Midsummer Eve always falls on the third Friday in June. It is a survival of Teutonic pagan festivals celebrating the summer solstice. Also known as St. John´s Eve. Celebrations continue into Midsummer Day. I am not going to bore you with any details about the traditions of Swedish Midsummer. You can read about them here4 Midsummer and some traditions or here4 Midsummer .
A typical Midsummer meal consists of different kinds of herring served with sour cream (gräddfil), chives and fresh potatoes, schnapps and fresh strawberries.

“Tunnbröd” (thin bread) is a Swedish flatbread and comes in many variants. It can be soft, or it can be hard and crispy. The dough is made from any combination of wheat, barley and rye. From my point of view, “tunnbröd” looks like Matzoth (Jewish in origin). Flat, perforated crisp crackers of flour and water, baked in large rounds or squares. I am not familiar with this bread, so, I really cannot tell. Perhaps somebody else knows.
This website has recipes for “tunnbröd”, unfortunately only available in Swedish 4 Homemade “Tunnbröd”

The Grass Harp was directed by Charles Matthau and released in 1998. Charles Matthau won the Family Film Award for this movie in 1996 for best director. The movie is however based on a novel written by Truman Capote. The movie was filmed in Wetumpka, Alabama, USA. The cast of the movie is not good but far from bad. We have actors like Piper Laurie, Sissy Spacek, Walter Matthau, Edward Furlong and Nell Carter. The rest of the cast also okay but nothing to brag about, Piper Laurie also won an award for Best Supporting Actress by SEFCA Awards in 1997. She really deserved this reward, her performance in the movie is really good.

Here we are on Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, the archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean. (Early explorers discovered a great many dogs on the islands, hence the name from the Latin canis, meaning dog). Originally inhabited by Berberlike peoples, known as Guanches.
We are sitting in the cave restaurant Tagoror, Barranco de Guayadeque, having “papas arrugadas con mojo”. The Barranco de Guayadeque is a valley stretching from Gran Canaria’s coast into the heart of the island. Within this valley there are hundreds of old Guanche caves and burial chambers. The traditional Guanche way of cooking potatoes was in sea water, they say.
This is a preview of
Papas Arrugadas Con Mojo (Wrinkled Potatoes With Sauce)
