Netgear MA521 on Fedora 6 works

Add comment June 29th, 2007

Just to let everyone know the olny success ive had with wireless at all is on fedora 6 and ubuntu 6.10 with ndiswrapper. I cant help to think its a kernel problem with vwesion 7 of these 2 os that is keeping wireless from working out of the box.ive worked on this for 3 days on my compaq n600c laptop and came up empty handed on version 7 stuff. I would personall think the fedora team would have atleast 8k kernels out of the box it would do away with alot of wireless headaches for them.

Another reason why windows xp sucks

You know i guess once you go linux you never go back. I installed windows xp on the laptop today and setup al my drivers and such amd low and behold i download a piece of software that much have had a virus. The laptop froze up and i forcefully shut it down and when i restarted it “Wouldnt BOOT” I was thinking to myself this whole time after spending anhour or 2 installing everything , it was like time wasted. I should have dropped a copy of fedora or ubuntu or even suse in and my day would have been alot better off.

Gmail Notifier and Firefox Bug

Add comment June 24th, 2007

Im here to let everyone know about a bug ive found between firefox and gmail notifier when you are logged into gmail and sending mail. If your gmail notifier is runniing when you try to send email from your gmail mailbox you might experience page hanging and a script error box that pops up and wants to know  if you want to continue  with the script or not.  The best advice ive found is to turn off the notifier before you send email from your gmail account and all will be good again.  No script errors,  No page hanging

gmail notifier to Load At Startup with ubuntu 7.04

Add comment June 23rd, 2007

This is a very simple trick ive learned over the past few weeks playing around with ubuntu 7.04 , click system/preferences/sessions a box will appear click the startup tap and it will display your startup programs. ok lets say for example you want to add gmail notifier to startup. You would click new enter the name of the program, in this example its gmail notifier. ok the next line is the command line you would add this line to it /usr/bin/gmail notifier and click ok and now when you reboot it will start on startup after you login.

have a nice day!!!!

Centos 5 cpu Load 100% Fix

2 comments June 22nd, 2007

heres a dang good fix for some of you. I have a p4 server that was running with 100% of cpu loaded and i was getting the dreaded “cpu running above threshold limit ” in terminal window. well if you dont use SELINUX on your machine you in luck, and if you do use it just disable it under security settings first before you do this. If you look at the system monitor click the resources tab you will see your cpu running 99-100% causing alot of heat to build on the cpu. now click the tab labeled processes in the system monitor and look for a process called ” SEALERT ” you will see this proccess using like 95% of your resources, now right click on it and click stop. now click on your resource tab again and see if your cpu usage fell down ALOT , mine went from 99-100% down to 6-7% if this works heres the permant fix for this .

yum remove setroubleshoot

it will ask you yes/no to remove just put y for yes and reboot afterwards and you can check system monitor after the reboot and your usage should be normal and in the proccess tab the word sealert should be gone. Im sure this same fix will work on fedora and redhat as well since they so closely related

Add comment June 18th, 2007

Well in not 100% sure yet but i think i finally got this to work in ubuntu 6.10 . I added some codecs to mplayer and removed the totem plugin from firefox and it will now show the videos on waff 48 now. I have yet to test it on brads live stream from the weather department because we havent had any severe storms in awhile now, not even a good rain. I will be watchin to test this part if anyone wants better details about doing this let me know. As soon as i see it work on brads livestream ill post it anyway with the needed codecs. Cya later

Beware Of Ubuntu 7.04 “Fiesty”

3 comments June 18th, 2007

This is about my 2 day struggle to get 2 totally different wireless netgear cards to work in my compaq laptop.I had Ubuntu 6.10 in this laptop before and my netgear MA521 worked like a charm ,right out of the box.Well I loved this linux openerating system so much i figured i would try version 7.04 “Fiesty” , Little did i know that they used a different kernel for 7.04 and now my wireless nightmare began.I tryed to install ndiswrapper in 7.04 with my netgear MA521 and also my Netgear wpnt511 Rangemax and had no luck making either work this way. I have used ndiswrapper before with a Netgear WG511 on ubuntu 6.10 with great success.Im not sure what they did exactly to “Fiesty” but i finally decided to downgrade back to the trusty version 6.10 since it works. Just so everyone know i also tryed this with xubuntu 7.04 with no luck at all, but i did like the colors of that os alittle better.Well this is my computer rant for today ,check back for more soon.

Peach Cobbler

Add comment June 2nd, 2007

I love peach cobbler. I called Momma a few years ago and asked her for my Grandmother’s recipes. It’s so simple and so delicious.

**Peach Cobbler**

1 14 oz can of sliced peaches and juice
1 cup of flour
1 cup of milk
1 cup of sugar ( I don’t use that much)
1 cup of butter (I use about half)

Grease a 9×9 inch cake pan (or iron skillet).
Preheat oven to 350.
Mix all of the ingredients EXCEPT the peaches.
Pour peaches (juice and all) in bottom of pan.
Pour batter over top of the peaches and dollop butter on top.
Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve with ice cream or great alone.
