A Long Time Coming builds a great sense of drama as it delves into the stories behind the scenes – the Clinton-Obama struggle, the McCain-Palin ticket, the infighting and backstabbing, and ultimately the graceful emergence of a man born to be a leader.

The book is split into seven chronological chapters (plus intro, epilogue and a bonus interview with Obama). At first, they alternate between Obama’s and McCain’s primary campaigns – Obama’s vicious, grinding battle with the Clinton machine, the Clinton campaign’s infighting and self-immolation; McCain’s near political death (the chapter’s titled “Back from the Dead”), and subsequent victory, months ahead of an end to the Democratic contest (which he was never able to fully take advantage of). Then we move on to the national campaign, and two distinct characters emerge: Obama, clear-headed and calm, professorial, self-aware, and in control of his team. McCain, on the other hand, seems a little at sea, events spiraling out of his control with a needy base and unnecessary constraints on his character. The debates are analysed, and McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as vice-president is covered in-depth, as are the resultant problems she causes for McCain by going “rogue”, later described by staffers as a “wacko” and “diva”. (Obama’s choice of Biden is dealt with rather quickly.)

-How his tax plan would raise rates to a Hoover-like 60% and eviscerate America’s economy
-How the U.S. Treasury will become the United Nations’ ATM
-Why Obama wants to keep fuel prices high and Americans immobilized
-The ’0 to 5′ initiative designed to transfer child-rearing from parents to the state.

Kyle W. Bell have always been an avid writer. Perhaps that explains why I own and manage three separate websites with all of them dedicated to different subjects. While I am still at the tender age of twenty-one, I like to think that gives me the freedom to write openly and refrain from being overly cynical. Most of my writing deals with current events and politics, although I like to dab into policy on occasion as well.

Halli Casser-Jayne’s new book, A Year in My Pajamas with President Obama, The Politics of Strange Bedfellows takes a provocative, fun, thoughtful look at Election 2008 through the creative eyes of an author with a sassy and distinctive voice.

A YEAR IN MY PAJAMAS WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA, The Politics of Strange Bedfellows is no ordinary book. This is a riveting trip down memory lane, a book that explores the often zany realm of politics in an innovative look at election 2008. It is a smart, sassy and thought-provoking collection of columns originally written for the author’s blog, The CJ Political Report and the UK’s Independent, the view through the eyes of an original thinker with an uncommon sense of humor, not mention a nose for bull.

Barack Obama\’s election to the U.S. Senate in 2004 is one of the most interesting and colorful political campaigns in recent history. His rousing keynote address at the Democratic National Convention that same year made his name a household word. The \”Obama for Illinois\” crusade offers important insights into American politics. The authors explore the role of money, political party, ethnicity, religion, and the issues facing our society today. Obama\’s straightforward policy recommendations, message of hope and inclusion, and charismatic style propelled him to the national spotlight. Obama has the potential to shape America and to reshape U.S. politics as he campaigns for the White House. Obama\’s state senate career and his decision to enter the U.S. Senate race are examined in this book. Despite a primary field of six competitors, Obama received more than half of the Democratic vote, defeating a multimillionaire and the state comptroller, a well-known figure in the Democratic Party. The general election imploded for the Republicans in the first few weeks of the campaign when it was revealed that their candidate was embroiled in a sex scandal. Alan Keyes, the ultraconservative, outspoken African American who had run for president twice and for the U.S. Senate from Maryland, was recruited to challenge Obama. But Obama, whose skill with the media and whose ability to raise funds was evident even in those early days of his career, easily won the race with 70 percent of the vote. The authors analyze Obama\’s ability to speak to the concerns of multiple constituencies by appealing to a coalition of voters that transcends race, class, and gender. At the start of his presidential run, Obama gives new meaning to the American dream.

“Never has the world needed strong and wise American leadership more than it does now. Abramsky’s eminently readable description of Obama’s personal gifts makes it clear that he is remarkably suited to be the president the moment requires.” -Former New York Governor Mario M. Cuomo
From the moment he burst onto the national political scene, Barack Obama has fascinated people more than any politician in decades. Many biographers have already retold his story, but no previous book truly explains how his mind works, what passions drive him, or what makes him such an effective leader.
This concise profile explores the ideas, inspirations, and experiences that have shaped the president. It quotes a wide network of sources, including many who broke long-standing vows of silence to offer their candid and surprising observations.
Award-winning journalist Sasha Abramsky interviewed close to one hundred of Obama’s current and former friends, colleagues, classmates, teachers, staff, mentors, basketball buddies, fellow Chicago activists, media consultants, editors, and even his next-door neighbors from Hyde Park. These people each know a part of Obama’s life and career, which the author blends the pieces into a uniquely detailed analysis.
Abramsky explains the origins of Obama’s extraordinary poise, focus, and self-confidence; his powerful storytelling and speaking skills; and his empathetic listening style. He shows why Obama’s experiences as a community organizer are widely misunderstood and more influential than many people realize. And he explores how Obama found a unique way to bridge America’s racial divides.
No previous book has delved so deeply into the events and people that helped make Barack Obama the man he is today.

Sasha Abramsky is one of the most original and politically insightful investigative journalists writing in the US today. He is best known for books such as Hard Times Blues, a penetrating critique of the US prison system, and Breadline USA, which reveals the hidden scandal of everyday hunger and poverty faced by American families. He is also a Senior Fellow at the New York City-based Demos think tank. His new book, Inside Obama’s Brain, attempts to delve inside the mind of the 44th President. I spoke to him about the book, and the central role that empathy plays in Obama’s political vision.
