George Wallace: Settin’ the Woods on Fire (2000)

April 21st, 2008

George Wallace: Settin’ the Woods on Fire was directed by award winning Daniel McCabe and award winning Paul Stekler. The documentary was released in 2000 and was a good success all over the world. The documentary won 4 awards and was nominated for 2. The documentary won the Video Source Award and Special Jury Prize in 2000 and the Golden Gate Award and WGA Award in 2001. The cast is however totally unfamiliar to me except for Randy Quaid who plays himself / narrator in the documentary.

The documentary is about the Alabama Governor and president candidate George Wallace. Many people still believes that he was the American version of Hitler, the people who still think that has to see this documentary. You can almost not believe what you hear when people (also black civil rights leaders) have to say about him. And then ask yourself how did this man become a lightning rod for controversy and how did he chatter himself into doing what he did? All in all it is worth seeing this documentary, and the conclusion is that things aren’t always like they seem or like we want them to be. A good and educational documentary indeed.
