Shadow Waltz

Shadow Watlz was released in November 1985 and directed by Milton Bagby. The cast and the director are unfamiliar the only star in this movie was Jamie Rose as Columbine Cromwell and the lesser known Thom Gossom Jr as Pompeii (a slave). The movie plot is about the American Civil War in the 1860s. A lonely Indiana farm widow finds love when she takes in an injured traveling salesman (Terence Knox), only to learn he is a Confederate spy on the run from Yankee patrols. The story then evolves from being just a simple drama film to something more. The movie actually covers many important elements, this was however not enough to impress Hollywood who slaughtered the movie.

The movie was filmed in Bessemer, Alabama, USA and features beautiful environment. The director Milton Bagby was fresh in the game when I made this movie it became his first and his last film. The movie contains plenty of drama, a lot of romance and some good war scenes. However, Shadow Waltz also known as Revel Love never made it big. My guess was that the Director was simply not experienced enough and a bad selection of actors made it even worse.

This movie was directed by Bob Graham and released in September 1982. This was Graham’s second last movie and it is filmed in Grand Hotel – One Grand Avenue, Point Clear, Alabama, USA. The movie was produced by the company Quartet from USA and almost all the actors here are unfamiliar except from Lilia Skala (Mlle. Reisz) and Patricia Barry (Mrs. Merriman). Lilia Skala did a good performance in this movie and she is overall a good actor with 2 won Oscars through out her career. Patricia Barry also did a okay job but could have been better. Except from this the screenplay of this movie is really weak and the rest of the actors had a big lack of quality when it came to performance.

This is a drama movie about a girl named Edna (Sally Sharp) feels sick and tired of her family and a boring marriage. She then meets and falls in love with a younger guy and later she leaves her family and tries to start a new life. The movie is however based on Kate Chopin’s novel which was a great novel, and the film is also known as “The Awakening of Eve”. Overall a good it was a good story with low quality acting.
Frankenfish was directed by Mark A.Z Dippe the same guy who produced Alexander the Great. Frankenfish was release in 2004 and was a good horror flick at the American theaters. Simon Barrett wrote the movie, this is the same guy that wrote Dead Birds a year before. Frankenfish was filmed in Alabama, USA but I cannot say exactly where in Alabama the filming took place. There are many familiar faces in the cast but no stars. Tory Kittles, K.D. Aubert, China Chow and Matthew Rauch are some of the actors you will see in this horror / action movie. The cast does and acceptable job in this low budget movie and I am surprised over China Chows performance.

The story is quite okay and it is about this huge monster fish called Frankenfish. When the body of a man is found completely destroyed in the swamps in Louisiana, the medical investigator Sam Rivers is assigned to investigate the murder. He travels with Mary (China Chow) to the location it all happen but when they get there they get lost and they have to fight for the survival versus this huge monster fish which kills everyone in his sight. The story is good and it’s a good entertainment film.

Southern Heart is a action /comedy /drama movie directed by Peter DeLuise. The film was released on 22 October 1999. The filming took place in Mentone, Alabama, USA. The film was an okay success but the cast is very unfamiliar. The director Peter DeLuise and his writer Emily Carpenter plays in the movie together with Jason Horgan. It is not often that the Director and the writer plays in their own movie, but this is an exception. The film also captures a lot of beautiful landscape in Alabama this is a great plus in our book and a beautiful sight indeed.

This film touched many people hearts and, in all ages and even though the actors, were not very well known, the viewers loved it. The story is beautiful and touching and I simply love the way they show Alabama, it really makes me want to visit Alabama and look at the beautiful and stunning landscape Alabama has to offer. The movie is a little bit cheesy and maybe they have put to much love into it, but overall its good and a movie I recommend at my strongest. Never has Alabama been more beautiful then this that is for sure.

SpaceCamp was released on 6 June, 1986 and directed by the unknown director Harry Winer. The movie was filmed in Huntsville, Alabama, USA and Kennedy Space Center, Titusville, Florida, USA. Even though the director is not well known there are still some good actors in the movie. Joaquin Phoenix as Max, Lea Thompson as Kathryn Fairly and Tate Donovan as Kevin Donaldson are some of the actors in the film.

The plot is about a bunch of American kids that decides to go to a space camp during the summer holidays. They enter a space rocket to learn how to operate it and with an accident the space shuttle launches into space with only the teenagers to control it.

Joaquin Phoenix simply steals all the scenes in this movie, he was the youngest of all the kids and here you will easily see exactly why he is one of the biggest Hollywood stars today. This movie offers good action and a great Sci-Fi story. I believe this movie is targeted for younger viewers because the story simply gets a little bit too cheesy for the older generation. However, it is a great movie and as I said earlier Joaquin Phoenix really manages to show his talent in this film. This was also the first real movie he stared in.

Blue Sky was directed by Oscar winner Tony Richardson and released in 1994. This was also his latest film before he died on 14 November 1991. Blue Sky got plenty of awards when it came out. Jessica Lange won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role, a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, a LAFCA Award for Best Actress, a Sant Jordi for Best Foreign Actress and got nominated for several more. The film was a major hit in USA and filmed in Selma, Alabama, among other places. However, Jessica Lange was not the only hot actor in this master piece. Tommy Lee Jones as Maj. Henry ‘Hank’ Marshall also did a good role in the movie.

The story of the movie is about Henry ‘Hank’ Marshall (Tommy Lee Jones) a tough army engineer and nuclear expert. He is assigned to help conduct weapons-testing in 1950′s America. His wife Carly Marshall is mentally sick and does not like what her husband is doing when the army has to movie the nuclear testing base to Alabama.. This is a very good drama movie with and excellent cast and a good background story.

The P.A.C.K was directed by Bryan Todd and written by David A. Prior and Michael W. Evans Jr. The film was released in 1997 but it was a huge letdown from other movies which was written by David A. Prior. The movie was filmed in Mobile, Alabama, USA like most of David A. Prior’s movies. The cast in this film is pretty unknown and actually pretty inexperienced actors. Sandahl Bergman plays the main role as Rachael and Ted Prior plays a evil robot sent from another plant to kill everything he see (T-7043). It is easy to see that they had en extremely low budget for this movie and the plot and the cast is really bad.

The story is about a UFO that crashes in the Alabama forest and out from the UFO jumps Ted Prior, known in the film as the killer robot T-7043. T-7043 then walks around in the forest shooting at everything he sees and there is only a sheriff and his crew who is able to stop is crazy killing machine. If they cant disable the machine within 30 days the whole Ted Prior cyborg blows up and the explosion will be to big that it will blow up all of Alabama.

Mission of the Shark: The Saga of the U.S.S. Indianapolis (1991)

Mission of the Shark was directed by award winning Robert Iscove and written by Alan Sharp. The movie was released 29 September 1991 and was a great success. The movie was filmed in Mobile, Alabama, USA. The cast is okay and Stacy Keach and Richard Thomas plays the two main roles in the movie. The movie is based on a true story when the Indianapolis sank and the crew had to do everything for survival. The film lasts for 100 minutes but got enough background story to last for at least 200 minutes more. The work of the background story is the film is amazing and it should have been a mini series rather than a movie. The actors offer a good screenplay and the story is great, so there is not much to complain about here.

The film leaves a bit to be desired, but the saddest part of the tale is that the horror is true and the abhorrent behavior of the US Navy was unforgivable, even as of 1991. However the movie gives you good facts what really happen with the atom bomb on Hiroshima. As I already stated above it’s a good movie with good actors made in Alabama.

To Kill A Mockingbird (1962) by Universal Home Video
Length: 130 mins.
Rated: Not Rated
Languages: English, French
Subtitles: English, Spanish
Format: Letterboxed

This movie is based on the book with the same name To Kill a Mockingbird is a Pulitzer-Prize-winning novel by Harper Lee. The movie and book is very good and specially interesting since you see the problem in Southern America from a Childs eyes.
It’s all about the classic conflict when a black man is accused of raping a white woman. This off course all happen in Alabama as usual.
If you have not got this movie in your DVD selection you should it is a classic for all ages.

Secrets of the Phantom Caverns (1984)

Secrets of the Phantom Caverns also know as What Waits Below was directed by Don Sharp and released 21 November 1985. This was one of Don Sharp latest movies and it goes under the Action/Horror genre. The cast are rather unknown except for Timothy Bottoms which played the role of Maj. Elbert Stevens. The movie was filmed on two different places first in McMinnville, Tennessee, USA. When they were done shooting here they changed location to Woodville, Alabama, USA in the Lemurian Caves.

The plot works great for a horror movie and basically the film is about The US government used deep caves as bases for special radio transmissions. One day the signal from the transmitters in the cave stop and a group of soldiers get sent to the cave to check it out. After some exploring in the cave they find a hidden tribe with people or cavemen. These men has been isolated from the rest of the world for thousand of years, and they are not to happy with the soldiers entering their cave.
This film strong side is the story as described here and not the acting for that sake. The movie offers some scary scenes and keeps you very focused about what will happen next.
